LIVESTREAM GAME - Farrington Vs. Maryknoll December 13th 2013
Micah has decided to play basketball his senior year!
Micah's history with basketball you ask? Well, he played KBA in the spring, NJB during the Winter, Kalakauka clinic every Sunday, and went to shooting clinics in Tacoma Washington during the summer from the age of four years old, until grade 7.
When Micah turned 12 he was diagnosed with Osteochondris Dissecans in both knees. This is a very rare bone disease and more commonly found in athletes. Micah suffered from severe cartilage damage and had to have surgery to repair his right knee.
His knees finally healed in 2012. The doctors said he could play basketball again, however…he was in search of his new passion and dream of winning the ILH Kayaking Championship for the second time. He won the title in 2011 as a Sophomore in the distance, and recently again in 2013 in the sprints. He is the only Hawaii Kayaker to win in the distance 11' and the sprints 13' both years he also won Hawaii Kayaker of the Year!
Micah is playing basketball because he needed a new challenge. He could easily be training for Worlds in Kayaking… (placing fourth at Nationals Aug. 2013) but he wants to see if there is still a love for basketball like he once had.
Micah finished Kayaking October 19th, took a two week break, and then started with basketball and has learned so much in just one month…I had to create a video.
Micah is now interested in the possibility of playing basketball and rowing in college. He is looking at a college in Washington State, or possibly Point Loma in San Diego. Please e-mail Micah or his mother if you would like to talk. mcgivernm14@maryknollschool.org or Heidi McGivern luv2teach808@gmail.com
